City Hall News: April 13-17

Elkins W. Va., April 11, 2020: The regular council meeting of April 16 has been postponed until Tuesday, April 21. Elkins Common Council—like every other city and county governing body in West Virginia—is required by state code to meet on the third Tuesday of April to finalize its annual budget process, so Mayor Van Broughton has combined the two meetings.

The April 21 meeting—like all council and committee meetings during the COVID-19 state of emergency—will be a virtual meeting. As that meeting date gets closer, log-in and dial-in information will be posted here: www.cityofelkinswv.com/login.

As a reminder, all city services remain in operation under modified procedures to reduce infection risk to the public and city staff. Utility bills, court fees, and other payments may be deposited in the metal drop box behind city hall. Utility bills may also be paid online: www.cityofelkinswv.com/government/treasurer/online-utility-bill-payment.

If you need to reach a city staff member, please use departmental contact information available on the city website: www.cityofelkinswv.com. City officials are continuing to join regular COVID-19 teleconference briefings by county, state, and federal agencies and organizations.

Please remember that, to reduce COVID-19 transmission risk, sanitation workers can no longer accept trash that is not contained in a tied trash bag. Spring Cleanup is indefinitely postponed and bulk trash pickups are suspended. Also, under the governor’s March 23 stay-at-home order, all public and private playgrounds are closed, although parks remain open for recreation provided that social distancing is practiced.
