City Hall News: October 31, 2020

Elkins, W. Va., October 31, 2020: Trick-or-treating will be observed in Elkins tonight, 6:30-8:30 p.m. City hall will be closed Tuesday in observance of election day, but garbage will be collected on the usual schedule. This week there will be a council meeting as well as meetings of council’s Finance Committee and Economic Growth and Development (EGAD) Committee.

The Finance Committee’s Monday, 9 a.m. meeting will focus on FY 2021 budget revisions, funding for the purchase of protective grates for downtown trees, and the reappointment of the city clerk.

At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, the EGAD Committee continues its discussion of next steps concerning annexation.

Council meets in regular session Thursday at 7 p.m. The agenda is not final until Monday, but current business items include consideration of bids for the water-meter replacement project, a supplemental resolution related to the recently issued sewer bonds, and various appointments and reappointments to city boards and commissions.

Interested in running for office in the March 2021 municipal election? Voters will be electing a new mayor and one council member from each of the city’s five wards. The filing period begins Monday, November 2 and runs through Friday, November 20. Information about the city election is available on our website: www.bit.ly/Elkins2021Election.

This week, Elkins Parks and Recreation staff will be closing and winterizing park restrooms for the season.

All meetings are open to the public and are held at Elkins City Hall (401 Davis Avenue) unless otherwise noted.
