City Hall News: Week of August 22, 2022
Meeting this week are the Elkins Sanitary Board and council’s ad hoc Special Hiring Committee and Rules & Ordinances Committee. Expect temporary changes to traffic patterns in the vicinity of the Tygart Hotel. Police, fire, and emergency medical personnel will participate in a kickball tournament Saturday in Glendale Park.
The Sanitary Board meets Monday at 10 a.m. On the agenda are various personnel actions, discussion of an engineer’s needs assessment for the water and sewer systems, and discussion of policies for check valve installation and stormwater downspout connections. The board will also discuss the foam-filled sewer line under Randolph Avenue.
Meeting Monday at 2:30 p.m., the Special Hiring Committee continues work to recruit a new operations manager. At this meeting, the committee will plan questions as it prepares for interviews of selected candidates.
The Rules & Ordinances Committee meets Tuesday at 9 a.m. Agenda items include consideration of ordinances implementing new home rule authorities and a review of the policy for use of the downtown sound system.
Traffic patterns around the Tygart Hotel will be temporarily disrupted next week as part of the ongoing construction work on that building. Monday-Friday, there will be a large vacuum truck stationed behind the Tygart Hotel, and large deliveries are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. The delivery process may block the northbound lane of Davis Avenue; watch for flaggers. Neither operation will prevent use of the Seneca Mall Parking Lot.
Saturday will see the debut of the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission’s new adult kickball league. Starting at 9 a.m., in Glendale Park, there will be a double elimination tournament between first responder agencies from Randolph, Barbour, and Upshur Counties.
All meetings are open to the public and, unless otherwise stated, held at Elkins City Call (401 Davis Avenue). Find agendas and other meeting information here: www.cityofelkinswv.com/council-and-committee-meetings.
