City Hall News: November 28, 2020
Elkins, W. Va., November 28, 2020: At 9 a.m. on Thursday, the mayor’s ad hoc Committee on Boards and Commissions continues its consideration of proposed appointments and reappointments to the city’s various boards and commissions. Anyone interested in filling one of these crucial, volunteer positions should inquire as to vacancies with the city clerk at (304) 636-1414, ext. 1211.
The regularly scheduled meeting of council’s Economic Growth and Development (EGAD) Committee is cancelled; the committee will not meet in December.
The agenda for council’s Thursday 7 p.m. meeting is not yet finalized and may be adjusted through Tuesday. Current items include the second and final readings of three ordinances: Ordinance 277, which would allow the operation of “street-legal” ATVs and UTVs on Elkins roadways, and Ordinances 278 and 279, which would approve the transfer of two city-owned properties to the winning bidders from the November 13 auction held at city hall. Also on this week’s agenda is the reappointment of the city clerk.
The Office of the City Treasurer is hosting another adoptable cat from the Randolph County Humane Society. Jerry is a short-haired, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped male, and you can meet him during business hours at city hall. For more information, call RCHS: (304) 636-7844.
The Operations Department requests that bagged glass and yard waste not be left at the recycling drop-off site on Jones Drive, near Robert E. Lee Avenue and the Flood Control Road. Please place unbagged recyclables only in the provided containers during open hours. For hours and more information: www.bit.ly/ElkinsRecycling.
Through December 14, Toys for Tots collection boxes will be in the city hall lobby and at WalMart, Big Lots, Dollar General, and Walgreens. This program, coordinated this year by Phil Gainer Community Center manager Chris Lee, provides presents for area children who might otherwise go without.
