City Hall News: Week of Feb. 14, 2022
Meeting this week are Elkins Common Council’s Public Safety Committee, ad hoc ARPA Advisory Committee, and Municipal Properties Committee. The Elkins Historic Landmarks Commission meets Tuesday, the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission meets Wednesday, and council meets Thursday.
The Public Safety Committee, meeting Monday at 10 a.m., will discuss issues related to parking on South Davis Avenue. The committee will also hear reports from the city’s public safety officials.
On Monday at 1:30 p.m., there will be a special meeting of the ARPA Advisory Committee to consider a proposed change in the previously approved plan for ARPA expenditures by the Water Distribution Department.
The Historic Landmarks Commission meets Tuesday at 4:00 pm at the Darden House (next door to city hall). The commission will hear a presentation from The Southern Kitchen and discuss several grant applications that are in progress.
On Wednesday at 9 a.m., the Municipal Properties Committee will consider a proposal for the installation of an HVAC system for the Treasurer’s Department. The committee will also hear reports about city properties generally and progress on accessibility and other projects recently commenced at city hall.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meets Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Phil Gainer Community Center to consider business items such as a proposed new logo for the commission, bleachers for the Elkins Elks Babe Ruth League field, and plans for utilization of an estate gift.
Council meets Thursday at 7 p.m. The agenda may be adjusted through Tuesday. Current items include final action to abandon an unopened section of Coke Lane; a grant application to fund a smoke detector program; discussion of a proposal to establish an official downtown streetscape master plan; the renewal of a contract with USDA APHIS for control of nuisance pigeons; various budget revisions; and the appointment of a new operations manager.
