City Hall News for August 8, 2020

Elkins, W. Va., August 8, 2020: Meeting this week are council’s Public Safety Committee and Rules & Ordinances Committee, as well as the Elkins Tree Board.  Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Personnel Committee has been cancelled for lack of new business.

The Public Safety Committee meets virtually on Monday at 10 a.m. to discuss distressed properties and hear reports from the city’s public safety officials.

On Wednesday, the Elkins Tree Board meets at 5:30 p.m. in the garden of the Darden House (next to city hall). The meeting’s agenda includes an update on filling an AmeriCorps position, an update on improvements to the Darden Carriage House, and goals for this fiscal year.

At its Thursday 12 p.m. virtual meeting, the Rules & Ordinances Committee plans to review the city’s noise ordinance. This agenda item was requested after a presentation from the Elkins Make It Quiet group at a recent council meeting. The committee will also review city laws concerning operation of off-road vehicles (e.g., ATVs, UTVs, etc.) on city streets, to see if modifications are needed in response to recent changes in state code.

Last week, the Elkins Firefighters Civil Service Commission set a date of September 12 for its next round of civil-service testing. There are currently no openings at EFD, but testing for placement on the commission’s list of eligible candidates is the only way to be considered for future openings.
