Elkins, W. Va., December 12, 2020: Elkins Common Council, its Public Safety Committee, and its Personnel Committee all meet next week. In addition, the Elkins Historic Landmarks Commission meets Tuesday at 4 p.m., and the Elkins Parks and Recreation Commission meets Wednesday at 5 p.m.
In response to high coronavirus infection rates in Randolph County and statewide, the mayor has ordered that Elkins council and committee meetings be held virtually through at least December. Login information will be posted here at least two days before each meeting: www.cityofelkinswv.com/council-and-committee-meetings.
At its Monday 10 a.m. meeting, the Public Safety Committee will discuss proposed updates to the city’s property maintenance code and review an estimate for demolishing a Fussell estate property on First Street. The committee will also consider enforcement options in response to ongoing public complaints about conditions on the Ambassador Church property at the former location of the Ink Spot, also on First Street.
The Personnel Committee, meeting on Monday at 1 p.m., continues its analysis of the possibility of expanding the city’s Code Enforcement Department. Also on the agenda is a personnel matter in the Operations Department.
On Tuesday at 9 a.m., in the course of ongoing preparations for the March 2, 2021 city election, the city clerk will hold the public drawing for ballot position that is required under state election code. Lots will be drawn to determine the order in which the names of the candidates for mayor and five council seats will be printed on the ballots. (Election information: www.bit.ly/Elkins2021Election)
